Wike's Borrowings Validated by House Rep Agbese

Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives and a Labour Party lawmaker from Benue State, has dismissed allegations against Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, regarding unauthorized loans for the territory. Agbese stated there is no evidence that Wike violated any laws in financing projects in the FCT.

This response follows claims by Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the FCT in the National Assembly, that the FCT Administration borrowed funds without legislative approval, based on information from the Debt Management Office covering August 2023 to March 2026. Kingibe noted that Wike had not appeared before the Senate to seek loan approval.

Agbese countered that public borrowing is governed by established procedures and that Wike has subjected the FCT's administration to legislative scrutiny. He emphasized that an increase in the FCT’s debt profile does not imply illegal borrowing, especially given the infrastructure projects initiated since Wike took office.
