Wike's Borrowings Compliant, Says House Deputy Spokesperson

Hon. Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, addressed allegations made by Senator Ireti Kingibe, claiming that Barrister Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), secured borrowings without National Assembly approval. Agbese stated that Wike has not committed any infractions regarding financing projects in the FCT and is one of the most legislatively compliant public servants.

He emphasized that public borrowing processes involve constitutional and administrative authorities, and Wike has consistently engaged with the National Assembly through budget presentations and committee appearances. Agbese refuted claims that Wike operated outside legislative oversight, arguing that the increase in the FCT's debt profile should be viewed in the context of ongoing infrastructure projects, including road construction and transportation infrastructure.

He maintained that lawful borrowing for infrastructure development is not an offense, provided the necessary approvals and procedures are followed.
