Wike Expresses Disappointment Over Nigeria's World Cup Miss

During the inauguration of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road in Abuja, Nyesom Wike lamented Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He stated that Nigerians are unhappy about the country's absence from the tournament, especially given the expansion to 48 teams.

Wike highlighted that despite having over 13 Nigerian players in top leagues globally, the Super Eagles could not secure a place in the World Cup. He directly addressed Joseph Yobo, expressing that the Super Eagles' failure to qualify is disappointing and that no one should pretend otherwise.

Wike's comments reflect a broader sentiment of frustration regarding Nigeria's football pedigree and the missed opportunity to participate in the World Cup, especially after an underwhelming campaign in the African qualifiers, which included a playoff loss to Congo on penalties.
