Wike predicts smooth 2027 win for Tinubu amid weakened opposition

President Bola Tinubu will find winning the 2027 presidential election considerably simpler than his 2023 campaign, according to Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory's minister. During inspection visits across Abuja this week, Wike pointed to disunity among opposition political parties as the basis for his assessment.

Wike described opposition parties as fragmented and weakened, contending they would encounter difficulty mounting a unified challenge against the sitting president. He drew a distinction between current political conditions and those that existed during the 2023 election cycle, when Tinubu faced more formidable obstacles.

The minister also praised how Tinubu's administration has permitted democratic procedures to advance without heavy-handed interference. When pressed on the Peoples Democratic Party's recent triumph in Osun State—where incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke prevailed—Wike suggested that regional circumstances shaped that particular contest.

He maintained that presidential races at the national level follow entirely separate patterns. Though Wike remains a PDP member while backing the APC-controlled federal administration, he asserted Tinubu would have secured Osun had he made that victory a priority.
