Wike Launches Investigation into Abuja Flooding Issues

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has initiated an investigation into severe flooding along the Airport Road and Lokogoma District. This decision follows recent torrential rains that have caused unprecedented flooding in Abuja.

A high-level task force, led by the executive secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the director of Development Control, has been dispatched to assess affected areas, including Lugbe and Lokogoma. Wike indicated that preliminary findings suggest long-standing violations of the Abuja master plan, with structures built across natural waterways and road corridors without valid approvals.

He emphasized the administration's commitment to correcting these abuses and stated that any structures obstructing waterways would be demolished. Furthermore, Wike announced that stern administrative actions would be taken against officials who facilitate illegal encroachments into green areas and waterways, reinforcing the need for compliance with the Abuja master plan.
