Call for TikTok Ban in Nigeria Over Child Abuse Case

Lere Olayinka, an aide to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has called for the Nigerian government to review TikTok's operations in light of a child pornography case in Anambra State. This demand follows the arrest of 36-year-old Anulika Onyeanusia by the Anambra State Police Command after a disturbing video involving a minor circulated online.

The arrest occurred on Thursday, September 10, based on information obtained through open-source intelligence. Olayinka questioned the unrestricted use of TikTok, emphasizing the need for stricter regulations to protect children from exploitation.

The police confirmed that four children, aged two, three, six, and nine, were rescued during the operation, and relevant materials were recovered. The investigation is ongoing, with the police examining the circumstances of the alleged offense and the involvement of other individuals, including Onyeanusia's husband.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, condemned the incident and directed a thorough investigation while ensuring the rescued children receive appropriate care.
