Woman Arrested for Smuggling Alcohol into Ogun Prison

Shobowale Balikis was arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle alcohol into the Ibara Custodial Centre in Ogun State on September 26, 2026. The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, Olayinka Odukoya, reported that Balikis was intercepted around 3:50 pm while concealing Ethano in a bottled water pack, disguised as drinking water for an inmate.

The substance was detected before it could reach the inmate population. Following the interception, Balikis was handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and potential prosecution.

Abioye Adesina, the Command’s Controller of Corrections, reaffirmed the command's zero-tolerance policy on contraband smuggling, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining safety and order within custodial facilities. The command also assured the public of ongoing efforts to prevent contraband infiltration and uphold the integrity of the correctional system.
