Women Affairs Ministry Seeks N134.2 Billion Budget Review

The Ministry of Women Affairs, under the leadership of Hajia Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, has formally requested an upward review of its N134.2 billion budget earmarked for the 2026 fiscal year. This request was made during a budget defense session with the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, where members expressed dissatisfaction with the poor cash releases allocated to the ministry's capital overhead components from the 2025 budget.

Ibrahim emphasized that an upward review of the 2026 budget would enable the ministry to effectively implement programs aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by women in the country. She highlighted the need for domestic allocations in the 2026 fiscal year and noted that the total budget for the ministry includes N2.1 billion for personnel costs, N131.2 billion for capital expenditures, and N810.9 million for overhead costs.

Senator Ireti Kingibe, the committee chairman, welcomed the request, acknowledging the issues surrounding fund releases and the need for solutions.
