Fashola Urges Women to Influence Governance Decisions

At the 2026 Women Director Biennial Conference organized by the Women’s Group Charter in Lagos, Babatunde Fashola, former Minister and Governor of Lagos State, called on women to move beyond representation to influence in governance. He stated that while diversity in boardrooms has improved, there is a need to strengthen women's capacity to influence governance outcomes.

Fashola urged women to prepare adequately for leadership roles and to prioritize team welfare and community skills to achieve results. Dr.

Ajoritseder Awosika, Chairperson of Access Bank, described inclusive leadership as a moral obligation for governance, emphasizing that women's participation must translate into measurable impacts. Other speakers included Mr.

Adetunji Oyebanji and Mr. Amina Oyagbola, who discussed the need for women to build credibility and courage in decision-making roles.

The conference highlighted the ongoing conversation about women's leadership evolution and the importance of their influence in both public and private sectors.
