Anambra State Did Not Apply for 2024 HOPE-Governance Loan

The World Bank has confirmed that Anambra State did not express interest in participating in the 2024 HOPE-Governance loan program, contrary to some reports. The statement issued by Christian Aburim, Chief Press Secretary to Anambra State Governor Prof.

Chukwuma Soludo, clarified that the state's non-participation was a deliberate administrative decision and not a result of penalties for failing to meet performance benchmarks. The World Bank's report, dated July 7, 2025, indicated that 35 states and federal capital territories expressed interest in the program, but Anambra was not among them.

Aburim noted that the report did not mention any disqualification or failure to meet benchmarks, but rather indicated the state's interest in engaging with the World Bank. The Anambra State government is currently conducting due diligence and ongoing discussions with the World Bank, emphasizing that participation in the program must align with the state's development priorities.
