DR Congo Stronger Than Nigeria for World Cup 2026

Thomas Kwenaite, a prominent African football journalist, has stated that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) is a stronger team than Nigeria and Cameroon as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He noted that DR Congo needs to achieve a total of thirteen matches to qualify successfully for the tournament, having already defeated various opponents, including Nigeria, to secure an intercontinental playoff spot.

Kwenaite praised the Congolese team for their outstanding performances, particularly against notable African teams, and emphasized their strategic superiority throughout the qualification campaign. He also mentioned that fewer than ten members of the current squad were actually born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, following a successful recruitment initiative by the Congolese Football Association (FECOFA) to persuade several dual-nation players to commit to the Leopards.

Despite a formal protest filed against FIFA regarding the eligibility of some players, the complaint was ultimately rejected.
