Nigeria Football Crisis: Calls for Reform After World Cup Fail

Miri Timnan Nyantau, the chairman of the Langtang North Amateur Football Association (LAFA), expressed criticism towards the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau. He described the growing criticism against the NFF as unfair and lacking proper context, particularly following Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This setback has reignited calls for sweeping reforms within the country's football administration. Nyantau pointed out that Nigeria's football management cannot be directly compared to countries like South Korea and Saudi Arabia, which operate under significantly different conditions, including stronger football structures and stable funding.

He argued that the NFF's reliance on last-minute government interventions for financing football activities poses major obstacles to long-term success. Nyantau insisted that the challenges facing Nigerian football are deeply rooted and extend beyond the current NFF leadership, urging stakeholders to focus on addressing structural weaknesses rather than placing blame solely on the administration.
