Ghana Sacks Coach Otto Addo Ahead of World Cup

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed the immediate dismissal of head coach Otto Addo on Tuesday, following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart during preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. This decision comes after a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria.

Otto Addo, a former Borussia Dortmund player, was appointed for a second stint as head coach in March 2024 but failed to qualify Ghana for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations despite having notable Premier League players like Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus in his squad. The 50-year-old Addo recorded 8 wins and 9 defeats in 22 matches in charge of the Black Stars.

Previously, he led Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the team secured a 3-2 victory against South Korea but exited the tournament after defeats to Portugal and Uruguay. Ghana is set to make its fifth World Cup appearance, drawn in Group L alongside Croatia, England, and Panama.
