Hampton Critiques Media Focus on Women's Goalkeeping Errors

Chelsea Women goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has criticized the media's disproportionate focus on errors made by female goalkeepers, stating it unfairly damages their reputations and performance. Hampton, who won the Women's Super League Golden Glove award for the second consecutive season, emphasized that while women's goalkeepers are often scrutinized, their successes are not celebrated enough.

At 25 years old, she played a crucial role in helping the England Women's National Football Team retain the European Championship title at Euro 2025 and made a decisive penalty shootout save. Despite her achievements, Hampton noted that media organizations prioritize showcasing mistakes over highlighting the development and quality of women's goalkeeping.

She expressed solidarity with fellow goalkeepers, acknowledging the unique pressures they face. Hampton's career has included challenges, such as being dropped from the England squad before the European Championship triumph, but she has since returned to the national setup under manager Sarina Wiegman.

She praised Sophie Whitehouse of Charlton Athletic Women for her deserving recognition this season.
