Yobe APC Chairman Urges Wives to Divorce Non-Voting Husbands

Mohammed Gadaka, the Yobe State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made a controversial statement advising married women to divorce their husbands if they were stopped from voting for the party in the upcoming general elections. This remark was made on Thursday during an event where he welcomed hundreds of defectors into the APC.

Gadaka further pledged to pay the “new bride price” for any woman who chose to leave her marriage over loyalty to the party. His comments drew significant outrage from residents, including Islamic scholars, who labeled the remarks as reckless and potentially damaging to family values.

In response to the backlash, Gadaka issued a retraction in a 42-second video posted on the Facebook page of Mamma Mohammed, the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni. He clarified that his comments were intended as “joking banter” and did not reflect his true beliefs, offering an apology and withdrawing the statement.
