Yobe Residents Urge Governor Buni for Dialysis Center

Residents of Bade Local Government Area in Yobe State have urgently appealed to Governor Mai Mala Buni to establish a dialysis center in Gashua, citing the ongoing kidney disease crisis that has affected many families in the area. Despite years of appeals, patients continue to travel long distances to Damaturu, the state capital, to access life-saving dialysis treatment.

The absence of a local facility imposes significant financial and emotional burdens on families, as many patients require multiple sessions each week. Hamza Muhammad Tasi U, a resident, described the situation as unbearable, highlighting the financial strain of transportation costs and the need for family members to accompany patients.

Abdullahi Kaigama, a member of the Save Gashua Kidney Disease Initiative, emphasized that establishing a dialysis center would greatly alleviate suffering and reduce the mortality rate associated with kidney disease. Meanwhile, a multidisciplinary team led by Dr.

Mahmoud Bukar Maina is conducting research to investigate the root causes of the high prevalence of kidney disease in the area.
