Yobe Assembly Addresses Urban Planning Challenges

The Yobe State House of Assembly has commenced the process to tackle issues related to uncontrolled construction and poor urban planning within the state. Speaker Chiroma Buba Mashio announced the initiation of a public hearing for a bill designed to establish an urban development authority.

This authority will provide a legal framework to coordinate urban planning and improve infrastructure development, thereby curbing indiscriminate construction and ensuring environmental sustainability. The proposed authority aims to enhance development control, promote balanced development across urban and rural communities, and strengthen physical planning standards.

Chairman of the House Committee on Housing, Hon. Musa Lawan Majakura, urged participants to carefully scrutinize the bill to contribute to its success.

The committee will study recommendations presented during the public hearing, which may include contributions from various stakeholders such as the Yobe Geographic Information Service, the Nigerian Institute of Architects, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and civil society organizations.
