EFCC Dismisses 40 Officers Over Corruption Issues

On September 1, during a media interactive session in Abuja, Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), announced that over 40 officers have been dismissed for corruption and financial malpractice in the past three years. He stated that at least five officers are currently being prosecuted for alleged corrupt practices, with additional case files being prepared for prosecution against other personnel.

Olukoyede stressed the importance of accountability, questioning why EFCC personnel accused of corruption should be treated differently from other suspects. He stated, “You can’t be fighting corruption when your hands are soiled with corrupt practices.” To enhance internal accountability, the EFCC has renamed its Internal Affairs Department to the Department of Ethics and Integrity and introduced a gift policy to prevent conflicts of interest.

This restructuring aims to strengthen ethical conduct and maintain the commission's credibility in investigating financial crimes.
