Wike Addresses APC Governors' Opposition to Coalition

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, commented on the opposition to his proposed Rainbow Coalition from Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. He stated that their concerns are not primarily about the coalition's potential to weaken the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike indicated he would provide more details during a television appearance later that day. He dismissed suggestions that the coalition was a strategy for his positioning in the 2031 presidential election, emphasizing that it is premature to speculate on future political contests.

Wike acknowledged President Bola Tinubu's interest in succession, given that he would not be eligible for re-election in 2031. He also referenced his second-place finish in the 2022 PDP presidential primary behind Atiku Abubakar, asserting that his immediate goal is to support Tinubu's re-election bid.
