Lamido Advocates for Youth Empowerment at PDP Event

Alhaji Sule Lamido, a former Governor and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), addressed the importance of young Nigerians in driving positive societal change during the PDP's celebration of International Youth Day in Abuja on Wednesday. Represented by Professor Ali Pantami, a former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Lamido highlighted that youths make up over 60 percent of Nigeria's population, making their inclusion in decision-making essential.

He lamented the high unemployment rates and job scarcity faced by young Nigerians, exacerbated by the rise of Artificial Intelligence and other technologies. Lamido criticized the education system for failing to align with modern labor market demands, advocating for a redesign that focuses on producing potential employers rather than employees.

He also pointed out the lack of mentorship and high costs of political participation, stating that the "Not Too Young To Run" principle remains largely theoretical due to financial barriers. Lamido urged the PDP and other stakeholders to enhance support for youth development and participation in governance.
