SDP's Adebayo Urges Youth to Lead Nigeria's Political Change

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) called on young professionals in Nigeria to take ownership of the political process, emphasizing that the country's economic and security challenges present an opportunity for generational leadership. This appeal was made on Wednesday night in Abuja during a courtesy visit from the Young Professionals for Social Change and the Confederation of West African Youths to SDP presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo.

Adebayo urged the youth to reject defeatism and elitism, asserting that Nigeria's core issues arise from leadership complacency. He highlighted the unique opportunity for the current generation to build the nation from scratch.

Adebayo, who joined SDP at age 19, criticized governance models that prioritize individual brilliance over collective purpose. He called for grassroots mobilization and purpose-driven leadership, invoking the legacy of the mid-20th-century West African Students’ Union.

Adebayo stressed the importance of political engagement at the community level, urging youth to focus on local politics and voter engagement.
