Abia Pensioners Criticize Governor Otti Over Unpaid Dues

The Abia Pensioners Forum has publicly criticized the Abia State government, led by Governor Otti, for neglecting the welfare of pensioners while prioritizing payments to former local government chairmen and councillors. During a press conference in Umuahia on Monday, coordinator Okey Kanu expressed dismay that pensioners, who served the state for 35 years or until the age of 60, have not received their pension arrears and gratuities inherited from previous administrations.

Kanu reminded Governor Otti of his campaign promises to address these issues before the 2023 elections, noting that many pensioners have suffered health issues or died without receiving their dues. He condemned the administration for paying former local government officials who served only two years while ignoring the needs of long-serving pensioners.

Kanu dismissed claims that the pension arrears owed have been settled and reiterated that the pensioners would not forfeit their entitlements to the Abia State Government.
