Zacch Adedeji's Campaign Role Raises Legal Concerns

On August 22, 2023, the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, which included Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), as Deputy Director of Fundraising under Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun. This appointment has sparked immediate backlash, with former Senator Dino Melaye threatening legal action, asserting that a serving public official cannot hold a senior role in a partisan campaign.

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties has also demanded Adedeji’s resignation to maintain the integrity of the revenue service. Critics argue that a tax collector should not be involved in campaign fundraising, raising concerns about public perception rather than theft.

Adedeji's defenders claim that fundraising and tax administration are separate. Despite his successful record at the NRS, where he oversaw the generation of N46 trillion from September 2023 to August 2025, the controversy surrounding his appointment raises questions about the appropriateness of his dual role.
