Zamfara Launches 120-Day Emergency Education Plan

The Zamfara State Executive Council has approved a 120-day emergency plan to address issues within the education sector. This decision was made during a council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau.

The plan includes conducting payroll audits, mapping school infrastructure, and targeting reforms to improve teacher development and student welfare. Additionally, the council has approved the establishment of a committee to assess illegal structures around schools and to relocate them to ensure a secure learning environment.

Furthermore, the council has approved a unified education sector bill that encompasses early childhood and tertiary education, which will be presented to the state house of assembly. Non-teaching staff in schools will be redeployed to relevant ministries, departments, and agencies.

The council also approved the composition of a steering committee for the state emergency education technical working group, which will include stakeholders, unions, development partners, and traditional leaders.
