NDC Rejects Lokoja Court Ruling on Party Legality

The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally rejected a ruling from a Lokoja court that declared the party illegal. In a press statement issued on Sunday, the NDC Chairman, Alhaji Surajo Garba Maikatako, described the judgment as a temporary legal hurdle rather than a death knell for the party.

He emphasized that the NDC respects the judiciary but fundamentally disagrees with the ruling, which he claims was obtained by the Peace Movement Party. Maikatako disclosed that the party's national legal team, acting under the direction of the national leader Senator Henri Seriake Dickson and national chairman Senator Cleopas Mose Zuwogh, will file a robust appeal against the judgment.

He expressed confidence that the appellate court would restore the party's full legal standing. The NDC reassured its members of its compliance with constitutional legal requirements and affirmed that its congress and primary candidacy processes remain valid as preparations for the 2027 general elections are in full swing.
