Yiaga Africa Calls for Transparent Election Results Management

Yiaga Africa has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to implement a transparent results management protocol for elections, particularly in light of the upcoming Osun State governorship election and the 2027 general elections. During a Policy Roundtable on the Electronic Transmission and Collation of Election Results held in Abuja, Samson Itodo, the Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, emphasized the need for public clarity on the handling of election results.

Yiaga Africa referenced its policy brief, “Securing the Vote through Electronic Transmission and Collation of Election Results,” which discusses the results management framework under the Electoral Act 2026. The organization pointed out that Section 60(3) mandates the electronic transmission of polling unit results to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.

However, they expressed concerns about the lack of transparency in the backend validation process and the absence of published ward and local government collation results, which hinders independent verification. Yiaga Africa urged INEC to publish a comprehensive protocol on results transmission and fulfill promises regarding the publication of accreditation figures.
