Ten Arrested for Stealing 1,800 Manholes in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command arrested ten suspects linked to the vandalism and theft of public infrastructure on the newly constructed Lagos Coastal Road. The arrests took place on August 17, 2026, as announced by the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 32, were apprehended based on intelligence gathered during investigations into the ongoing vandalism of the road infrastructure. Vandalized iron materials were recovered from the suspects at the time of their arrest.

Tijani stated that preliminary investigations indicated the suspects' involvement in the repeated vandalism of the Coastal Road infrastructure, and they have made statements regarding their alleged activities. The police command is collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible for the destruction and theft of public infrastructure face justice.
