Lagos Police Arrest 39 Suspects for Coastal Road Vandalism

The Lagos State Police Command arrested 39 suspects for various criminal activities, including vandalism of the newly constructed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and theft of infrastructure on the Third Mainland Bridge. Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, announced these arrests during a press briefing on August 2026.

Among the arrests, 10 suspects were apprehended on August 17 due to intelligence-led investigations into repeated vandalism along the Coastal Road, resulting in the recovery of vandalized iron materials. Chidiebere Ochiri, 28, was arrested for allegedly vandalizing and stealing government-installed CCTV camera cables and admitted to selling stolen copper wires to scavengers for N12,000 per kilogramme.

Other arrests included Olamide Suleiman, found with a locally made pistol, and Ibrahim Abidogun, a suspected member of the Aiye Confraternity. The police recovered various weapons and substances during these operations, with ongoing investigations to prosecute those involved.
