10 Police Officers Killed in Kebbi Bandit Clash; 17 Suspects Neutralised

Security forces engaged armed bandits in Sakaba LGA on Monday, sustaining heavy casualties while eliminating suspected gang members.

Ten police personnel died during a gun battle with heavily armed suspected bandits in Kebbi State's Sakaba Local Government Area on Monday morning. The encounter occurred around 9:25 a.m. along the Rafin Makuku axis, where officers intercepted a group moving between Zamfara and Kebbi States.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the incident through official statements made on Tuesday. In the exchange of fire, security forces killed at least 17 suspected bandits and recovered four motorcycles belonging to the attackers.

The operation resulted in civilian casualties as well—two civilians were killed during the clash. The Kebbi State Police Command has since launched follow-up operations to pursue fleeing members of the armed group.

The Nigeria Police Force Inspector-General conveyed condolences to families of the fallen officers through the Force Spokesperson, confirming the personnel as 'gallant' in their engagement. The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer announced that the command is prioritising support measures for the bereaved families of the deceased officers.

The incident marks another significant security engagement in Kebbi State, which has faced persistent banditry and armed group activities. The police command indicated that sustained operations remain ongoing in the region.

No arrest figures were reported, and authorities have not released the identities of the fallen officers or information on additional injuries sustained by security personnel during the confrontation.
