Ten Police Personnel Killed in Kebbi Bandit Encounter

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the death of ten police personnel during an encounter with suspected bandits on August 10, 2026, at approximately 0925hrs along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area, Kebbi State. The police operatives intercepted the bandits, resulting in the neutralization of at least 17 attackers and the destruction of four motorcycles.

Tragically, ten police officers lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries, while two civilians also died in the engagement. Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed profound grief over the loss, extending condolences to the families of the fallen officers and describing their deaths as a painful loss to the Force and the nation.

The remains of the officers were conveyed to Birnin Kebbi, and security has been reinforced in the area to pursue the fleeing bandits. The Nigeria Police Force pledged to support the bereaved families and honor the memory of the fallen officers.
