Yobe State Flooding Affects Over 1,000 Residents
The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) reported that flooding has impacted 1,020 individuals and destroyed 278 shelters across Kukareta and surrounding communities. Dr M.I.
Jalo, the Director of Search and Rescue Operations at SEMA, provided details from a flood incident assessment. The assessment identified several affected locations, with the Kokari IDP Camp being the most severely impacted, affecting 48 households and 232 people, with 63 shelters damaged.
Other affected areas included Lawanti Gana (30 households, 249 people, 68 shelters damaged), Bulama Gremari (18 households, 149 people, 41 shelters damaged), Fulatari (17 households, 141 people, 38 shelters damaged), Tsohuwar Kasuwa (16 households, 133 people, 36 shelters damaged), and Bulama Adam (14 households, 116 people, 32 shelters damaged). Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported, and no public buildings were damaged.
Dr Jalo advised residents to avoid flooded areas and take precautions against water-borne diseases.
