11-Year-Old Dies After Alleged Bullying in Akwa Ibom

On April 5, 2023, 11-year-old Ufokobong Godwin died in Akwa Ibom State, reportedly due to complications arising from alleged bullying. It is claimed that a senior student assaulted him by striking him in the neck.

Following the incident, school authorities allegedly treated him without informing his parents and allowed him to return home without disclosing the incident. On April 1, Ufokobong had complained of neck pain and received medical attention.

The situation escalated, leading to complications associated with a blood clot around his throat. The vice principal, Hassan Adamu, declined to comment on the matter, stating he was not authorized to speak, while the school principal, Ezeogu Jude, was contacted regarding the investigation into the incident.

The case has drawn significant public attention, highlighting issues of bullying within schools.
