ADC Criticizes Tinubu Over Poverty Rates in Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a statement criticizing President Bola Tinubu's administration, referencing a recent World Bank report that estimates 139 million Nigerians live below the national poverty line, which is about 60 percent of the population. The ADC, represented by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, argued that the economic indicators under Tinubu's leadership, such as increased revenue and foreign reserves, have not translated into improved living conditions for ordinary Nigerians.

They described the situation as a "catastrophic failure" and suggested that Tinubu should consider resigning instead of seeking re-election. The ADC criticized the federal government's reliance on temporary palliative programs, stating that these measures do not address the root causes of poverty and hunger.

They proposed solutions including reducing insecurity in farming communities, lowering energy costs, rehabilitating abandoned dams, and strengthening agricultural value chains to improve food production and reduce food costs. The ADC emphasized that true economic performance should be measured by the reduction of hunger and poverty.
