15 Injured in Tram Collision on Rotterdam's Erasmus Bridge

On Wednesday, a collision between two trams on Rotterdam’s Erasmus Bridge resulted in at least 15 injuries, with one individual reported to be seriously hurt. The incident occurred on the iconic bridge, which spans the River Maas and is a crucial transport link in Rotterdam.

Webcam footage captured one tram crashing into the rear of another, causing debris to scatter across the roadway and significant damage to both vehicles. An AFP reporter at the scene noted the presence of mangled metal and shattered glass as emergency responders cordoned off the bridge and halted traffic in both directions.

Injured passengers were evacuated using stretchers and wheelchairs, while the seriously injured victim was transported to a hospital. Initially, Rotterdam authorities reported 18 injuries but later revised this number to 15, according to Dutch national broadcaster NOS.

The Rotterdam public transport operator RET expressed shock at the incident and stated it is cooperating with emergency services to determine the cause of the collision.
