16-Year-Old Drowns in Okrika Due to Rising Water Levels

On Saturday, a 16-year-old boy drowned while swimming in Ogoloma, Okrika Local Government Area, as rising water levels from persistent rainfall created dangerous conditions. The boy, along with three friends, entered the water at approximately 1:30 PM when he was swept away by a strong current.

Despite attempts by a nearby man to rescue him, the current was too strong, and the boy drowned. Mr.

Igw Godswil confirmed the incident, attributing it to increased river depth due to dredging activities in the area. Recovery of bodies in such situations can take two to three days, and local authorities have advised parents to monitor their children's swimming activities closely.

ASP Bless Kaborlo Agab from the River State Police Command stated that while no formal complaint has been lodged by the boy's family, the police are aware of the incident and have commenced an inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
