16-Year-Old Drowns in Rivers State Stream While Swimming

On Saturday, a tragic incident occurred in Ogoloma, Okrika Local Government Area, Rivers State, where 16-year-old Miebaka Koko drowned while swimming with three friends. The group entered the water around 1:30 PM when they were suddenly swept away by a strong current.

Eyewitnesses reported that friends ran to seek help, but attempts to rescue Koko were unsuccessful due to the strong current. The area has seen increased river depth attributed to dredging activities by a state company, which has made the riverbank more dangerous.

Local authorities, including Igw Godswil from the Civilian Joint Task Force, have advised parents to caution their children against swimming in unsafe locations and to monitor their movements closely. As of the report, Koko's body had not been recovered, and the police, represented by spokesperson Bless Agab, confirmed that no formal complaint had been lodged, but investigations into the incident are ongoing.
