Benue Kidnap Victims Freed After N8 Million Ransom Paid

Eighteen individuals abducted along the Adoka-Uboju axis in Benue State regained their freedom after a ransom of N8 million was paid, along with foodstuff and groceries valued over N500,000. The victims were released on Thursday night in a forest near the Benue-Kogi boundary, according to Simon Igidi, the husband of one of the abductees.
They were taken to a hospital for medical attention after spending six days in captivity. An elderly woman was released separately on the day of the kidnapping, September 25, while the remaining 17 victims were released after the ransom negotiation.
The group included eight women from Tyomu, three from Vandeikya, and seven from Wurukum in Makurdi. Mrs Linda Ingyough, one of the victims, described their traumatic experience of being fed only dry garri and muddy water.
The abduction led to protests in Tyomu, demanding government intervention. Following their release, PureBioTech Nigeria Limited donated N1 million to aid in the victims' rehabilitation.
