Kogi Parties Sign Peace Pact for 2027 Elections

On Tuesday, nineteen out of the twenty-two political parties expected to participate in the 2027 general elections in Kogi State signed a peace accord at the Kogi State Police Command Headquarters in Lokoja. The agreement, facilitated by the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), commits the parties to conduct their campaigns in accordance with the law, focusing on policies and key issues while avoiding violence, intimidation, and hate speech.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, assured stakeholders of a fair campaign environment and warned against electoral violations, which could lead to legal consequences. He emphasized adherence to the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.

Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Shehu Wahab, highlighted that INEC has completed five out of fourteen scheduled activities for the elections and warned of penalties for electoral infractions, including fines and imprisonment. Participants urged security agencies and INEC to ensure impartiality throughout the election cycle.
