FAO Launches $222m Sahel Green Wall Project to Benefit 1.9m Farmers in Nigeria

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) launched a $222 million Sahel Green Wall Project to enhance climate resilience and restore degraded lands in the Sahel region, with Nigeria being a major beneficiary. The project aims to benefit 8.7 million people, including 1.9 million farmers in Nigeria alone.

It will cover 254,130 hectares of degraded land and focus on landscape restoration, climate resilience, and promoting low-emission value chains. The initiative will be coordinated by national agencies and overseen by steering committees to ensure effective implementation.
