Two Teenagers Missing After Flooding in Nigeria

Two 13-year-old children have gone missing following heavy flooding in Nigeria. In Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory, Alhassan Jamil, a Junior Secondary School student at Ihyau El-Burhan Academy, was swept away by floodwaters on Wednesday morning around 7:30 am.

His father, Jamil Maikasuwa, who is the Special Assistant to the Gwagwalada Area Council chairman on Domestic Affairs, reported that Alhassan fell into a culvert while attempting to cross floodwaters. Recovery efforts are ongoing, with reports of his body being seen but not yet recovered.

In a separate incident in Abia State, Adekunle Emanuella Ige went missing on Monday evening after being sent on an errand during a rainstorm. Her mother, Mrs. Adekunle Chinasa Ige, stated that the floodwaters had submerged drainage channels, complicating search efforts.

Police have initiated an investigation into both incidents, which underscore the ongoing flooding challenges in the region as highlighted by Nigeria's Hydrological Services Agency.
