Yobe State Emergency Management Agency Recovers Child from River

On October 4, 2026, at approximately 2:30 PM, two children were swept away by a river in Unguwar Bulama Alhaji Ahmadu, located in the Dapchi community of Bursari local government area, Yobe State. The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and local search and rescue teams were promptly deployed to the scene.
During the search operation, one of the children, identified as 14-year-old Goni Mustapha, was successfully recovered. As of 5 PM on the same day, efforts were still underway to locate the second child.
Dr M.I. Jalo, the Director of Search and Rescue Operations at SEMA, advised parents and guardians to prevent children from approaching rivers and other water bodies without supervision, especially during the rainy season when water levels can rise quickly.
He also cautioned residents against attempting to cross swollen rivers or entering fast-flowing waters due to the dangers posed by strong undercurrents.
