Two Teenagers Drown in Kaduna River Amid Flooding

Two teenagers, Suleiman Yakubu, aged 19, and Abubakar Mohammed, aged 17, drowned in the Kaduna River, with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirming the incident. As of Monday, the bodies of the victims had yet to be recovered.

NEMA's North-West Operations Office, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) and other stakeholders, has been assessing the flood situation following torrential rainfall that lasted approximately four consecutive days, from Thursday to Monday, across parts of Kaduna metropolis. The flooding led to flash floods that submerged roads and temporarily trapped residents in their homes, disrupting movement in affected areas.

Hajia Halima Suleiman, Head of Operations at NEMA, led an assessment team to evaluate the impact of the floodwaters on local communities. NEMA also visited the bereaved family of Yakubu to offer condolences and support.

The agency, along with KADSEMA and other emergency responders, will continue to monitor the situation and assess the needs of affected communities.
