Building Collapse in Anambra Traps Residents, Rescue Ongoing

On Sunday night, July 26, 2026, a three-storey building known as Elite Five Star Lodge collapsed in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, trapping an unspecified number of residents, primarily students from Federal Polytechnic, Oko. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Police Command, confirmed that some trapped residents were rescued immediately, while ongoing efforts continued to reach others beneath the rubble.

The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, mobilized to the scene following the distress report, securing the area and coordinating rescue operations. The Anambra State Fire Service and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) also participated in the rescue efforts.

Although some injured victims have been rescued and taken to a hospital in Oko for medical attention, the total number of casualties or affected individuals has not yet been confirmed. The command urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
