Anambra State Enforces Stricter Measures Against Building Collapses

The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has implemented tougher measures aimed at preventing building collapses and safeguarding residents' lives and property. Following a meeting, the Council announced that engineers and government officials responsible for approving building plans will be held accountable for negligence in cases of structural failures.

This resolution was articulated in a statement by Dr. Law Mefor, the State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation.

Individuals found guilty of negligence or unlawful acts related to building collapses will face prosecution under the law. Additionally, ANSEC has mandated increased integrity tests on buildings, particularly mass housing facilities and students' hostels, to identify unsafe structures before they pose risks to the public.

These actions are part of the Anambra State Government's broader strategy to avert disasters caused by structural failures and ensure the safety of buildings occupied by large groups.
