Ruth Asuquo Wins Silver in Weightlifting at Glasgow 2026

Ruth Asuquo represented Team Nigeria at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where she won a silver medal in the women's 48kg weightlifting event on Sunday. Asuquo finished third in the snatch with a personal best lift of 75kg.

She initially struggled with her clean and jerk attempts, missing her first two lifts at 93kg. However, she successfully completed the lift on her final attempt, bringing her total to 168kg.

India's Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal, while Malaysia's Irene Henry took home the bronze. With this achievement, Team Nigeria has accumulated a total of seven medals in the Games, comprising three gold and four silver, placing them third in the overall medals table.

Australia leads with 12 gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals, while England is in second place with three gold, seven silver, and five bronze medals.
