Canice Abua Faces Karim Bennani in Davis Cup Tie

Nigeria's Canice Abua is set to face Morocco's Karim Bennani in the opening singles rubber of the Davis Cup World Group II tie in Rabat on September 19, 2026. The pairings were confirmed during an official draw at the Union Sportive des Cheminots de Tennis du Maroc.

Nigeria Tennis Federation vice-president Datti Yusuf represented Nigeria at the event, attended by officials from the International Tennis Federation. Abua, Nigeria's number one player, will compete against Bennani, followed by Daniel Adeleye against Yassine Dlimi in the second singles.

The doubles match will feature Michael Emmanuel and Yusuf Abubakar against Younes Lalami and Dlimi. The reverse singles will see Adeleye face Bennani and Abua meet Dlimi.

All matches will be played as best-of-three tie-break sets on clay. The winner will advance to the 2027 World Group I Play-offs, while the loser remains in World Group II.

Nigeria aims for its first Davis Cup victory over Morocco, having lost all four previous encounters since 1973. The team, led by head coach Benson Ishicheli, arrived in Rabat after a training camp in Lagos.
