Edo NLC Disowns Planned May Day Celebration Event

The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by Prof. Mondai Lewi Igbafen, has officially disowned the planned May Day celebration scheduled to take place at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

The caretaker committee issued a public statement declaring that the event misrepresents the labor movement and does not reflect the genuine spirit of worker solidarity. Igbafen emphasized that the current divisive crisis within the Edo labor environment does not warrant a celebration.

The committee expressed concerns about internal struggles within the labor movement, alleging the involvement of impostors and political collaborators undermining the credibility of the union. They further dissociated themselves from the May Day event, describing it as lacking legitimate backing from the Edo State leadership of the NLC.

The committee urged workers to remain vigilant against misinformation and to draw inspiration from past labor heroes, reaffirming their commitment to the principles of solidarity and the independent struggle for workers' rights.
