Abia Monarch Apologizes for Death Threat to Voters

Eze Innocent Kalu Mba, the traditional ruler of Umunnato autonomous community in Item, Bende LGA of Abia State, issued an apology to voters following a viral video in which he threatened death to anyone not voting for Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu. In the video, he stated, “I will call a meeting because of this election and I will tell the people if you don’t vote for Benjamin Kalu, the land will strike you dead.” In his apology delivered on Thursday, Eze Mba expressed that his words were “capable of being misunderstood” and did not reflect his true intentions.

He reaffirmed his support for Governor Alex Chioma Otti and emphasized his commitment to peace and the welfare of his community. Eze Mba acknowledged the anxiety caused by his statement and sincerely regretted any misunderstanding.

He appealed to Governor Otti, Bende LGA Chairman Bassey Uwabunkeonye, and the people of Abia to accept his clarification.
