Opposition Candidates Unite for 2027 Presidential Election

The presidential candidates of the Accord Party, Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, the African Action Congress (AAC) led by Mr Omoyele Sowore, and Prince Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have agreed to collaborate towards a unified opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election. This decision was made during a meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where they discussed critical issues affecting Nigeria's democracy, economy, and security.

The candidates expressed alarm over the concentration of political power and the erosion of democratic institutions, warning against a shift from competitive democracy to a "coronation disguised as an election." They plan to mobilize various societal groups to present a joint democratic alternative. Additionally, they called for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Bichia Maisango, highlighting the need for accountability in political persecution.

The leaders urged the international community to monitor Nigeria's democratic trajectory while rejecting foreign interference in its sovereign affairs.
