Coalition Forms to Challenge Tinubu in 2027 Elections

Presidential candidates Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim of the Accord Party, Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), and Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have initiated discussions to form a coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The meeting took place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where they addressed issues such as Nigeria's democracy, economic challenges, and insecurity.

The candidates expressed their concerns regarding the concentration of political power and the weakening of democratic institutions, warning that failure to unite could lead to elections becoming mere formalities. They agreed to work towards a broader democratic alliance, with the structure and presidential candidate to be determined later.

The coalition aims to include diverse groups, including workers, youth, women, and civil society organizations. Additionally, they raised concerns about the treatment of individuals detained for political expression, specifically calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and Bichia Maisango, while emphasizing the need for democratic societies to accommodate dissent.
